What is Church?
A five-part exploration of our glorious identity as God’s people.
In September-October 2022 we had five sermons on ‘What is Church?’ We explored how the five major parts of the service give us five identities. Each sermon has an accompanying handout. Watch the sermons and read the handouts to get a vision of what St George’s Church stands for and how we seek to live.

Running ‘What is Church?’ as a course:
Our Vicar writes: One hope for this material is that it might be developed into a course. The current idea for the course would work like this - and here I reference the handouts:
Before each session:
Read the 'Jesus Is Good News' page - that page gives a summary of the gospel from the perspective of that part of the liturgy / that statement of identity
Read and consider the section of Luke/Acts for the forthcoming session
In the session:
Feedback from the Luke/Acts reading
Teach the identity, focusing on that week's section of Ephesians (page 4 of the handout)
Use the Lord's Prayer to pray
After the session:
Spend time meditating on that week's Psalm
Read the 'Understanding Worship' page
In the handouts I apply the truth of our identity to family, money and mission. Those three areas represent current areas at St George’s Church that need attention. But in another context, or here in the future, it may be that other aspects of Christian living and church life need attention. The aim is to give the framework (identity as church) and then apply to specific situations.
This overview document is not a finished document but shows the big themes and Bible connections underlying the material. This image shows the first page.
